Not all dogs need special training to be a therapy dog.

However, they must be well behaved, well socialized, and in good health.  They need to know the basic commands (sit, down, stay, and come), they must really like people, and they must have a gentle temperament.

Therapy dogs also have to handle new situations well, and enjoy being patted by strangers for the entire time they're "on duty."  If you think your dog has what it takes, contact PAWS to find out more information on becoming certified.

About Dallas:                            Dallas is a rescue dog.  We have had Dallas since he was 9 months old.  He is very patient with children and seems to naturally take the role as host to our guests, welcoming them into our home with a paw shake.  Dallas is happiest being scratched behind the ears while sitting on the couch.  His favorite treats include left-over ribs, pig ears (which are well hidden in our home), and Greenies.
