February is Spay/Neuter Awareness Month

February is a month we love, not only for Valentine's Day but because it also celebrates spay/neuter!

As we talk with people in our community or as we see on social media...'accidental' litters are being born all too often...sometimes the owner didn't realize their pet was old enough to get pregnant, some couldn't afford to have their pet fixed so just never had it done, or their pet got pregnant before their scheduled spay appointment, oftentimes people take in a stray who surprises them with a litter soon after and some pet owners just don't make spay/neuter a priority or care if their pet ends up having yet another litter.

There is a huge debate in the animal welfare world about whether there are enough homes for ALL the unwanted animals sitting in shelters or living on the streets...if there WERE enough homes, thousands of animals wouldn't be dying every day in shelters 🙁. There are too many unwanted pets being born every day.

Accidental litters are a huge part of this equation...if you have a pet or get a new pet, please make spay/neuter a priority. Don't wait or you could end up with one of those accidental litters yourself. Be a part of the solution, not the problem!

If you are a low income pet owner in Northeast Louisiana, PAWS can help spay/neuter your pet. CLICK HERE FOR AN APPLICATION. We can also always use donations so that we can continue to help as many pet owners as possible! DONATE HERE
